At the Greening the Islands International Conference in Malta, Elafonisos Eco contributed to a high-level dialogue on how island communities can strengthen long-term resilience by connecting renewable energy, biodiversity protection, and community health.
Elafonisos Eco opened Session 3, Sustainable Blue Economy’s Synergies with Island Biodiversity and Health, welcoming Anton Refalo, Malta’s Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights. Moderated by Katerina Kokkinaki, the session featured Enrico Toja as a panelist and explored how nature-based solutions, circular economy practices, and blue economy strategies can support both environmental protection and economic development in island territories.
We left the conference with a clear message: protecting ecosystems is not a limitation, but an opportunity to drive sustainable tourism, resilient local economies, and healthier communities across the Mediterranean and beyond.
