In October 8, 2025, our work on the lionfish, one of the Mediterranean’s fastest-spreading invasive species, was featured in Le Figaro, one of Europe’s most renowned newspapers.

What began as local action on a small Greek island (diving, cooking, teaching and connecting) has become part of a wider Mediterranean story. Often described as “the magnificent killer” the lionfish represents both a serious threat and a powerful opportunity to rethink our relationship with the sea, our food, and our future.
This recognition is more than a media feature. It is a reminder that awareness creates change and that even from the smallest island, collective action can make waves far beyond borders.
Together with H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, scientists, local fishers and local communities, we are turning this challenge into an opportunity for innovation, sustainability and a healthier Mediterranean.
We sincerely thank journalist Camille Jayr for highlighting this story and helping amplify the call to act.
Below, we share selected highlights from the article published in the French newspaper Le Figaro.
