32. EEW 2025 : Sustainable Storytelling by Katerina Kokkinaki

by | Jun 25, 2025

On the third and final day of Elafonisos Eco Week, we focused on sustainable tourism, reinforcing our commitment to making Elafonisos a model for responsible travel and ecological resilience.

Katerina Kokkinaki, Green Marketing & Sustainable Projects consultant, emphasized the importance of communication: “If you don’t show it, you don’t sell it.” Too often, fear of criticism leads to silence, a phenomenon known as green hushing. But in sustainability, progress matters more than perfection. Even if results aren’t final, actions and efforts must be shared.

Katerina highlighted the unique challenges of islands, particularly in waste management, and the need to explain these realities openly. Transparency builds trust and helps others understand the complexity behind each initiative.

She also underlined the power of storytelling. A beautiful beach photo might attract attention, but a meaningful story creates emotional connection. Sharing local traditions, people, food, and nature invites visitors to experience the island differently and stay longer.

Finally, she reminded us that data is essential, it supports your story and proves your impact. In short, dare to speak up, share your journey, and make sustainable tourism a visible, engaging, and collective movement.
