by | Jun 25, 2025

On the third and final day of Elafonisos Eco Week, we focused on sustainable tourism, reinforcing our commitment to making Elafonisos a model for responsible travel and ecological resilience.

Enrico Toja, President of Elafonisos Eco, opened the session by welcoming participants and reflecting on the success of the previous day’s discussions. He highlighted Prince Albert’s support for efforts against the invasive lionfish, which has been a central theme of the event.

Looking ahead, Enrico mentioned two major upcoming international conferences: one in Monaco (June 7–8) and the United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice, where the lionfish issue is expected to be a key topic.

The focus for the day was sustainable tourism, with Elafonisos being presented as a “living lab” for addressing invasive species like the lionfish. Participants engaged in hands-on activities at the port, generating creative solutions for the island’s future.

Enrico Toja also shared the results of a recent survey sent to coastal municipalities, Coast Guards, and Fishermen’s Associations. While over 90 responses were received, the survey revealed confusion and a lack of consensus on invasive species, highlighting the need for unified action.
