by | Jun 25, 2025

One of the key topics of this year’s Elafonisos Eco Week was “Blue Opportunities.” During the conferences on the second day, Edoardo Bodrato, collaborator of Elafonisos Eco, read the speech of Dimitri Papastergiou, Minister of Digital Governance of the Hellenic Republic, who expresses his regret for not being present on the island of Elafonisos, which he describes as more than a destination, it’s a symbol of harmony between people and nature. He emphasizes that this balance is increasingly threatened, but still within reach if we act together.

He commends Elafonisos Eco Week for uniting citizens, experts, and young people around urgent environmental issues. The initiative raises awareness and turns concern into action, helping protect what we love and prepare for the future.

This year’s key themes, waste and water management, sustainable use of marine resources, responsible tourism and the fight against the invasive lionfish are described as both timely and critical for Mediterranean ecosystems.

The Minister highlights the presence of Prince Albert II of Monaco as a reminder of the global nature of environmental responsibility. He also stresses the role of technology, including smart tools and open data, as essential to driving real change when combined with civic engagement.

He concludes by reaffirming the Greek government’s support for projects that combine innovation with sustainability, and by thanking the organizers, volunteers, and especially Mr. Enrico Toja for his leadership. He calls for continued collaboration to build a future where digital solutions and environmental protection go hand in hand.
